Nicole McLaughlin continues to surprise everyone from sneakerheads to casual Instagram followers with her playful footwear ideas. Having released a shoe with Reebok in December of 2022, this is not the creative designer’s first entrance into the world of collaborations, even crafting 1-of-1 concepts for brands in the past. Now McLaughlin combines her crazy design ethos with Vans, taking on its iconic Slip-On silhouette and giving it garden-appropriate tooling… which on second thoughts, even isn’t a thing!
Based on the theme of gardening, the Slip-On leaves behind its skate-friendly construction and opts for a more allotment-ready approach. The usual canvas construction is here, although with all the necessary add-ons to ensure your green fingers are kept free. Three pockets sit on the front portion of the shoe and as photos suggest, can hold anything from your wrench to even a trusty pair of scissors. Name another shoe that can do that! Branding on the tongue can be seen in an L.L.Bean-esque font, reading “Gardening Tote” under the designer’s initials. Playing into the repurposed tote bag design is the handle-style tab at the back, meaning you can hang these up after a hard day’s work.
These are set to release globally on March 31st via the Vans website as well as other Vans retail locations. Make sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for more information regarding this Vans Slip-On collaborative edition with Nicole McLaughlin!
