Once again, the 3-Stripes has gone back to its archive in order to “travel to the future” with this release of the adiFOM Q “Aluminium Black”. While the shoe may appear as though it’s inspired by modern-day products, its DNA is actually rooted in shoes that are over 20 years old. Footwear culture in 2022 has been all about slippers, mules, and futuristic forms of the cosy, which makes this adiFOM Q a perfect fit for the shelves.
The adiFOM Q takes its most obvious inspiration from the 2001 adidas quake for the exoskeleton portion of the shoe. However, the sole’s tread is inspired by the topographical grooves of the human foot, a design feature that was heavily focused on during the “Feet You Wear” 2000s era of adidas Basketball and popularised by the Kobe KB8 3. The inner bootie, which is made of a breathable Primeknit, is removable and interchangeable given you have more than one colourway of the adiFom Q. The upper also contains a minimum of 50% recycled content and is part of adidas’ sustainability commitment that was once only pushed by their collaborations with Parley. The brand writes, “Adiplus cushioning in the midsole keeps you going, no matter where your adventures lead to in time or space”, which would imply they’re pretty comfy from what we can assume.
