Samuel Ross and Dr. Martens return once again with a delivery of contemporary updates on heritage silhouettes under his A-COLD-WALL* brand. While the 1460 model was introduced in 1960, Ross takes his design language and transforms the traditional boot into a modern masterpiece. In true ACW* style, the collection uses a selection of binary colour palettes so that the renegotiated construction can take the spotlight.
The upper uses smooth leather in a non-aggressive bone colour, which is very different from the prior 1460 release that followed the brand’s industrial motif more closely. Similar to the ACW* x ROA collaboration, brushed metal rivets have landed on the upper, not only for aesthetic reasons but to also add to the boot’s material toughness. A durable translucent BEX outsole forms the lower section of the boot and is attached to the upper via bone welt stitching. Following the ACW* outline, the boot’s standard laces have been swapped out for a centre front zip closure, revealing a dual-branded tongue. Finishing off the shoe in classic Dr. Martens style is the webbing Airwair heel loop in the iconic black and yellow colourway, making these recognisable from afar. Opting for a more subtle approach, the ACW* co-branding is debossed into the outside of the shoe in miniature sizing, allowing the form to speak for the collaboration rather than its logo.
